Meritocracy
Notes:
Americans overall are firmly committed to the ideological function of the idea meritocracy.
Yet, does merit naturally accrue to those who are talented? Why is the notion of meritocracy
part of an ideological belief systems that is used to justify stratification? Consideration
of this question requires close reading of the text and the ability to think outside of
one’s pre-existing cultural conceptions.
